A reservoir drawdown and work on the New Dundee Dam was carried out in November 2019 to inspect dam components, repair the seal at the base of Gate #2 and repair the municipal fire service intake. Following the initial inspection, work was expanded to include removal of Gate #1 and hoist from the site to refurbish and repaint these components. Repair of these items is now nearing completion and we are still awaiting delivery of new seals for the gates.
Winter reservoir levels are controlled by wooden stop logs and held lower than summer level to provide additional flow capacity through the dam. The GRCA is planning to return the reservoir to normal summer level and operation with the reinstallation of the gate. Reinstallation work is currently planned for the third week of May, following the Victoria Day weekend, pending timely supply and work progress.
Maintenance work is vital to ensure the safe operation of the dam and we thank the residents of New Dundee for their patience throughout this project.
