Since 2001, the GRCA has partnered with the provincial government to participate in the Provincial Groundwater Monitoring Network (PGMN). The Ontario PGMN is a partnership between the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation, and Parks, 36 conservation authorities, and 10 municipalities across the province.
The network collects and manages groundwater level and quality information from aquifers across Ontario. Monitoring groundwater levels helps to set baseline conditions as assess how groundwater is affected by land use practices and water usage. This data can be used to identify trends, emerging issues, and provide a base for making informed resource management decisions.
Information from the PGMN provides long term groundwater monitoring data that is used for water management programs and activities such as: Source Water Protection, water taking application reviews, drought response, and planning applications.
